Where Arts and Academics are the Roadmaps To Success

ABOUT US

The Jacqueline M. Walsh School for the Performing and Visual Arts (JMW Arts High School) is a comprehensive, college-preparatory high school with a focus on the arts. We are committed to preparing our students to go on to top colleges in the nation, while concentrating their studies in a chosen arts discipline: visual arts, dance, music or theater.

Students attend an extended school day to fit in all required academics, while providing daily intensive study in their chosen discipline. Students also have access to all clubs and sports teams through Tolman High School, so they may receive a well-rounded high school education.

The JMW Arts High School is free to all Pawtucket residents, while out-of-district students can attend by paying tuition. All prospective students must be in good academic standing, as well as audition before a panel and/or submit a portfolio of work to be considered for admission. Students with or without formal training are encouraged to apply – our admissions panels are trained to spot raw talent in enthusiastic, interested candidates.

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Greetings and welcome to the Jacqueline M. Walsh School for the Performing and Visual Arts.  I am excited that you decided to view our website in order to learn about our wonderful students, faculty and aspiring programs.  JMW has built a foundation of excellence in both the Arts and Academics and we will continue to strive to become the best.  This upcoming school year has a lot in store for JMW with new initiatives and new classrooms that were constructed over the summer.

Some important reminders for this upcoming school year:

  • Freshman and New Student Orientation will be on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at the Agnes Little Elementary School right next door to our complex
  • The first day back for all students is on Tuesday, August 30, 2016
  • The school day will be from 7:50am to 2:20pm
  • JMW students will enter through the JMW Pod entrance in the front of the Jenks/JMW Complex
  • Breakfast will be served daily as a “Grab ‘N Go” option starting at 7:25am to 7:45am.
  • Students should check with their teachers on the first day of school for supplies needed for the year

Our school is dedicated to providing our students with a comprehensive educational experience.  We strive to promote a rigorous curriculum as well as ensure that our students develop character, leadership and become well-rounded citizens in the community.

I hope you get the opportunity to visit us often to witness a school that is dedicated and committed to our students.  I encourage all of our families to get involved in our activities because your participation is imperative to the success of our children.  Please check the website often for important information.  You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter (both links are on this page). I will also be emailing a weekly newsletter with important events and information.

I look forward to working with all of you this year on this educational journey!

Respectfully Yours,

Ricardo Pimentel, JMW Director
